On Wednesday, two talented golfers from Southwest Florida took to the course for the first round of the Women’s Olympic Golf event at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Nelly Korda, a Bradenton native, entered the competition with a strong pedigree. At just 25 years old, Korda has already established herself as a formidable force in the world of golf.
In the opening round of the Paris Olympics, Korda posted an even-par score of 72, setting herself up for a strong showing as the tournament progresses.
She began her professional career in 2017 and has since amassed 14 tournament victories, including two major championships. Korda’s impressive resume includes a memorable performance at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, where she clinched the gold medal. Her current LPGA career features the second-best scoring average on tour, underscoring her skill and consistency.
Brooke Henderson, who now resides in Miramar Lakes, Naples, also represented Southwest Florida with pride. Henderson, competing for Canada, finished the first round with a score of +2, or 74.
The accomplished golfer boasts 70 career top-10 finishes and 13 LPGA victories. The 2024 Paris Olympics mark Henderson's third Olympic appearance, following her participation in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games, where she finished tied for 7th, and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, where she placed tied for 29th. Her experience and past performances add significant depth to her Olympic campaign.
