The Caloosahatchee Bridge is scheduled to open up again on Sunday. FDOT has not confirmed the owners of operation, but residents say they are eager for the bridge to be open again.
"It ticked off a lot of people, but they sure will be happy when it gets back open," said Steve Brantner, owner of Steve B Waterfront Cafe.
NBC2 spoke to him right before the bridge closed down for the summer.
"It was an inconvenience for a lot of people," Brantner said.
He said he planned to lose business because of the closure, so he'll be happy to have his regulars back once the bridge reopens.
"I live in North Fort Myers, and I have to wait until 9 in the morning to leave the house, or I can't go over the Edison Bridge or Cape Bridge because it's packed all the time," said resident Jim Evey.
Evey said in the 30 years he's lived in North Fort Myers, this is the worst commute he's had.
"Traffic is unbelievable, it's the dumbest thing they ever could have done," Evey said.
Needless to say, he wants to know when construction will be fully completed.
"The Edison Bridge, they can bike over there, they don't have to do it here," Evey said.
