The Fort Myers Police Department received new funding to keep you safer when you're out and about. They are going to use the money to purchase three watch towers similar to what the Lee County Sheriff's Office has at shopping centers and Fort Myers Beach.
"We’ve always been a very technology-based department," said Officer Kristin Capuzzi.
The mobile towers will have cameras on them so staff in the real-time crime center can catch what's happening on the street where they put them.
"It’s beneficial to the department it allows you to reallocate or just allocate different resources," said Capuzzi. "You know with a camera like this you will be able to place it in different strategic areas and still see live time."
Officer Kristin Capuzzi says the towers will also be at big events to watch over crowds.
"We just want people to feel safe, said Capuzzi. "We want the community to feel safe every day and night. Then, also visitors and businesses within the city of Fort Myers. So we just feel like it’s just a big plus for everyone."
