Dozens of loved ones are honoring the life of a Cape Coral teenager who was hit and killed while riding her bike last week. Fifteen-year-old Kendra Ahrens died after a box truck hit her on Santa Barbara Boulevard and Mid Cape Terrace.
Family and friends gathered for a "Celebration of Life" at Cross Point Church Friday afternoon. They wore pink for Kendra and shared their favorite memories of her. We learned Kendra worked at SunSplash and would have been Junior at Mariner High School. She loved cheerleading, weigh lifting, and having fun.
"
Just don't forget her memory because she was a very bubbly, very happy person. She was always smiling. Just remember to smile," said Kendra's friend, Ella Roebuck.
As many tears were shed, people also seemed comforted that Kendra is in a better place.
"She will always be here. She will be your guardian angel. She'll always be watching over you, even if you don't feel it, she'll still be there," said Bailey Johnson.
In a final message to Kendra, one of her teammates said, "Your favorite thing about cheer was to fly. Now you can soar through the world."
We still do not know how Kendra got hit by the truck. We are waiting for Cape Coral police to give us the report on the incident.
