The NBC2 First Alert Hurricane Tracking Team is monitoring a new tropical wave in the Eastern Atlantic Ocean, where the odds of a tropical development are growing. The wave currently has disorganized showers and thunderstorms as it tracks to the west.
The system would likely reach the Leeward Islands and Greater Antilles by early next week.
Any development in the next couple of days would be slow; however, by early next week as the wave moves towards the Lesser Antilles there is a 50% chance for a tropical depression to form.
It's too early to know if this disturbance would have an impact on the U.S. mainland, but several of our more reliable computer forecast models show a possible recurve to the north before reaching the U.S. With that said, until a system actually forms, the long-term track is always more challenging to forecast.
