A woman walked through a side door of a Cypress Cove living facility Friday afternoon disguised as a nurse.
The woman was wearing blue scrubs and a face mask to fit the part.
A resident told a Lee County Sheriff's Office deputy that a woman came into her room saying she needed to check for water leaks. The victim then said the woman checked her master bedroom's bathroom and said she needed a little longer. She then left.
Cypress Cove told the LCSO that the woman stole a resident's jewelry and money after she was in the building for only 15 minutes.
Cypress Cove Executive Director Mary Franklin said the people who take care of the residents make Cypress Cove a special place.
Her message to residents and the community is that Cypress Cove is a safe place.
"We did have an unfortunate incident here, and safety is our utmost importance here," Franklin said. "We are working with the authorities on this isolated incident, and we want to reassure our residents and the community that this is a very safe environment. Here at Cypress Grove, it's a very safe place for our residents, and we care for our residents so much. Safety is always of utmost importance."
The victim estimated the jewelry was worth $25,000.
