A man was sentenced to two consecutive life sentences for the murders of two women in Lee County.
Ethan Cartwright was arrested in 2021 for shooting his girlfriend, who was the mother of his children, and her mother at a home in the 1800 block of Apple Road in San Carlos Park.
According to the State Attorney's Office, two children were inside the home during the hectic scene.
Cartwright's arrest report from LCSO said the children were covered in blood splatter when deputies arrived, though they were unharmed.
Cartwright shot their grandmother in the home before chasing his girlfriend down the street and killing her. The arrest report details surveillance cameras captured the moments Cartwright shot and killed her.
After the murders, Cartwright texted several people admitting his involvement in the crime, according to the State Attorney's Office.
Cartwright was convicted in June on two counts of second-degree murder with a firearm and shooting at/into a dwelling or building. He was sentenced to 40 years in prison for the count of shooting at/into a dwelling.
The State Attorney's Office said he was sentenced to the maximum possible sentence allowed on those charges.
