Palmetto Elementary School was buzzing with excitement this morning as students returned for the first day of school. Greeted by balloons, music, and the warm smiles of faculty and staff, the atmosphere was filled with energy as students arrived eager to start the new academic year.
Among the highlights of the day was the presence of Collier County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Leslie Ricciardelli, who joined four Palmetto Elementary students at their bus stop in Golden Gate Estates and rode with them to school. Ricciardelli shared her enthusiasm, saying, “I’m so excited to ride the bus with you guys!”
As students and parents flooded the school’s entrance, there were plenty of emotional moments. Parents hugged and kissed their children, wishing them a successful day ahead.
Inside the cafeteria, Ricciardelli and newly appointed Principal Tiffany Wind shared breakfast with the students. The conversation was lighthearted, with talk of favorite holiday traditions. For Wind, today marked her first day as principal, having served as the assistant principal last year.
“We’re excited,” Wind said. “We picked the theme ‘Shine Brighter Together.’ The school came together and decided it really incorporates everybody working as a team to support our students."
Ricciardelli also highlighted the district’s achievement, noting that Collier County Public Schools is the only A-rated district in Southwest Florida. She credited the district’s success to the teamwork and dedication of teachers, principals, and support staff.
“All the credit goes to our teachers, principals, and assistant principals in the buildings,” Ricciardelli said. “Same with our bus drivers, our nutrition service workers, everyone—the support staff. People work very hard for Collier County Public Schools because they are passionate about Collier County Public Schools. And I hope that they're all proud to be a part of this district.”
From the bus stop to the breakfast table, it’s clear that Palmetto Elementary is off to a bright start. With a focus on teamwork and community, students and staff are ready to shine brighter together this school year.
