A chaotic scene unfolded at Lehigh Elementary School on Tuesday when a parent’s car was hit twice by another vehicle trying to cut the pickup line.
"I got nervous because this is not a place to fight, it's a school so that's not good for children if they see that type of situation," said Ingrid Ferreira, whose grandchild attends Lehigh Elementary.
The parent whose car was hit said she had been waiting to pick up her child for over an hour and a half when the incident occurred. She said the trouble began when a gold Acura attempted to skip the line by speeding around a car, driving on the wrong side of the road, and trying to push its way into the line.
The driver said she honked her horn and rolled down her window to signal that the Acura needed to wait its turn. Despite her efforts, the Acura continued to inch closer until it crashed into her car twice.
"Some people, sometimes, they bump, crash sometimes. Some people are fighting sometimes," Ferreira noted.
While some parents battle the chaos of the pickup line, others choose to wait until most cars are gone to avoid the drama.
"I see a lot of people every day so I wait until the end to enter because there's always a lot of people," Ferreira said.
On Wednesday, the scene remained tense as parents continued to cut each other off in the pickup line.
"One guy came out and he turned around and he jumped and cut in front of me in line," said Jessica and Henry Vickery, parents at Lehigh Elementary.
While there are no laws against cutting in line, Florida law prohibits the use of wireless devices in car lines or school zones.
