School is back in session in Southwest Florida, and that means it's time to fill that empty lunch box. But how can you make sure your kids are getting tasty and nutritious food throughout the school day.
Nutritionist Gisela Bouvier joined ABC7 to show us more on how we can make sure our kids are eating healthy during the new school year.
It's important to start your kid's day with breakfast. Breakfast should include, at minimum, a protein and grain — preferably a whole grain. Now, for lunch, school meals will have the minimum offerings of a fruit, vegetable, milk, meat/meat alternative, and grain. But if you are packing lunch for your kids, aim for similar options and include a variety of nutrients that will keep your child satisfied and energized throughout the day.
