Saturday was the last day for early voting in several counties around Southwest Florida. In Lee County, Tyson Davis a Fort Myers resident recently turned 18 and he wasted no time voting.
"It was kind of like a surprise I wasn’t expecting it, I was here to pick up the stuff in the election and I just had extra time so I just went ahead and voted," Tyson Davis said.
He voted early because he said he wanted to make a difference.
"I mean more votes for what you want there’s a better chance," Davis said.
According to Lee Vote's website, over 13,000 people voted early and 73,000 voted by mail for the primary election. Seth Ford who also voted early on Saturday said he knows a lot of people don't take the time to vote.
"We often see that the majority of people in this country don't utilize their gift of voting, so most people don’t sadly," he said.
People like Anthony Dalton also agree.
"It’s important because I think I’m heard and then it makes changes in our community that we have to live in every day," Anthony Dalton said.
Candidates who win on Tuesday will go to the general election in November.
"It only takes 10 minutes and all of us together can make a real difference," Dalton said.
