Traveling around the city of Fort Myers, have you ever wondered how the streets stay swept and the plants kept proper? It all happens before most of us even wake up.
Jacquelyn James' day starts at 4 a.m. As a supervisor in the parks division, James is no ordinary manager. She's worked her way up from laborer to supervisor, and she shows the boys on her team how it's done.
"I actually get out in the field with the guys. I never let that go," James said. "I'm in the office. I'm out in the field. If I'm out in the field and I have a Zoom meeting, I'll get on that Zoom meeting and still be working."
For nearly two decades now, James has gotten her hands dirty, making sure everything is in order. From mulching and sweeping to taking out trash and trimming, James said it's all more than just a job to her. She was born and raised here.
"The most exciting part to me is getting the job done and knowing we did our best doing it," she said. "Knowing that I'm getting up and doing something for the city itself, knowing that I'm coming in to try to make this place pleasant, not only for ourselves, but the citizens as well."
