Cape Coral police arrested a man for grand theft auto after receiving a tip via social media on Aug. 6.
CCPD says Christopher Clark, 31, was identified by the public after a Facebook post that shared surveillance footage.
On July 25, around 2:25 p.m., officers responded to NE Pine Island Road for reports of a stolen vehicle.
The victim told officers she arrived around 12:45 p.m. at the shop before entering for about an hour. When she came out, her black pickup truck was missing, along with her key fob.
The victim said she either dropped the key in the parking lot or accidentally left it in the truck. She called OnStar to lock the vehicle and turn the ignition off.
OnStar advised that the truck was parked at 535 Pine Island Road in North Fort Myers for the last 30 minutes.
The Lee County Sheriff's Office was notified and found the truck unoccupied. The victim confirmed the truck was hers.
Surveillance video from a nearby business showed three suspects walking away from the truck.
On Aug. 6, CCPD posted the video to its Facebook page asking the public for help identifying the suspects.
A tip from the public led to the identification of two of the three suspects. One person was identified as Clark, who police say was already in the Lee County Jail.
Detectives interviewed the other subject identified in the video, who was also already in the Lee County Jail.
The subject said the three of them were at the location on Pine Island Road when Clark walked away to "see a friend."
Clark returned and told them a friend gave him the truck so they all got in.
The subject being interviewed said Clark hit the OnStar button and panicked, and that's when they realized the car was stolen.
The subject was shown photos of the truck and of Clark and confirmed the photo was of the truck stolen from the parking lot and that Clark was the person in the other picture.
After further investigations, Clark is facing one count of grand theft of a motor vehicle.
