The long and heated debate over the future of Jaycee Park is reaching its final steps.
The Cape Coral City Council has voted on a resolution for who will handle the construction and who will run food services at Jaycee Park.
The council voted 6-2 in favor of the resolution to proceed with a public-private partnership proposal from Fortress Secured LLC to handle the construction.
Some big changes include cutting down the invasive Australian pine trees and planting new ones, a splash pad, a proposed bar and a bandshell, along with space for several food trucks.
Another big change: The Reef, which will be a walk-up snack service.
The project is expected to cost between $16 million to $18 million.
It's important to note the council did not vote on the design of the park in Wednesday's meeting. However, we've been told that should be coming soon.
