The Hall of 50 States Committee voted to pass talks on to the Fort Myers City Council earlier this month. The decision caused frustration to the Lee Trust Preservation Foundation, as well as bidders not getting a chance to comment in meetings.
On Wednesday, the selection committee decided to vote to withdraw the previous recommendation and come up with a new one.
According to a news release that NBC2 received from the city of Fort Myers, the public should've been allowed prior to the vote during the presentation meeting on Aug. 9.
"There was so many things that were done incorrectly, especially the out-of-town companies," said Jim Becker. "It frustrated me because it’s a beautiful historic building."
Denise Finn, the procurement manager for the city, says going back to square one was the right thing to do, she says everybody should have a voice.
"All the bidders are out because we closed the solicitation, but it's open to anyone and anyone can submit a response to the request for proposal," Finn said.
Moving forward, the city will obtain an independent structural engineering report on the Hall of 50 States, allow public input, and seek city council approval on the updated solicitation for the Hall of 50 States before its release.
