Supervisor of elections websites experienced a massive outage throughout the state Tuesday afternoon and evening. Across Florida, 61 counties experienced an outage, according to the Collier County supervisor of elections.
"The vendor (VR Systems) has reached out and said that one of their security protocols they had in place was doing some additional logging, and that's what they believe was the culprit," said Melissa Blazier, the newly reelected Collier supervisor of elections.
Collier County websites started to lag around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday and fully crashed around 7 p.m., right as the final results were being tabulated.
"It wasn't some sort of external thing that was happening. It wasn't anything malicious. It was really a security protocol that they had in place. I think with the amount of hits that the websites were taking across the state, it just, it took this their system down," said Blazier.
Collier County published election results during the website issues throughout primary election day.
"The one thing that's really important about this to mention is that the website is not connected to our voting system in any way," said Blazier.
