The Lee County Sheriff's Office is investigating a boat dumped near a Lehigh Acres road. Neighbors say it has been there for one to two weeks along Sheldon Ave. and E 11th St.
Lee County told NBC2 the boat was brought to the attention of Solid Waste Wednesday. In a situation that involves watercraft, the county first checks with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, as the vessels may or may not be reported stolen.
The Lee County Sheriff's Office also placed a tag on the boat Wednesday, warning the owner it must be removed five days from the date of the notice. Otherwise, it would be presumed to be abandoned property and will be removed by the order of Lee County.
LCSO said it is working to track down the registered owner to get the boat removed from the side of the road. If it cannot find the owner, it will divert the case to Lee County for removal.
Seeing illegal dumping around the community can be frustrating for some residents.
"You could have sold it at least. That's what I think, to be honest. It's illegal. Stop doing that," Jonsiah Diaz said.
