Cape Coral could get 27 new roundabouts next year. Right now, the largest city in Southwest Florida is still in the research phase.
The city shared a map that shows where the city is studying places to add them. In the northwest, there could be seven on Old Burnt Store Road, two on Tropicana Parkway and a few more in Northeast Cape. On the southside, there are four on Cape Coral Parkway and several downtown.
One place that could get a roundabout is at SE 47th Terrace and Coronado Parkway. Right now, there is a light. A roundabout could keep traffic moving rather than the stop-and-go we have now.
"It would be a great, wonderful idea to slow down traffic," said one resident, Roberto Contreras.
Contreras, originally from Massachusetts, says his experience with roundabouts isn't so bad, but not everyone likes them.
"People don't know what they are doing, especially around here in Jersey. It was bad enough," said Kathy Benson, originally from New Jersey.
The city says if they go forward with construction, it could start in the spring.
