Week one of the high school football season kicks off with Gulf Coast making the trip all the way up north to take on Charlotte. Prior to this matchup, they hadn't played each other since 2012, the Tarpons leading the all-time series 3-0.
This game featured some craziness in the first half. Charlotte's Levi Wooten's 25 yard field goal attempt was blocked by Gulf Coast's Macly Lirmil, which was returned 85 yards to the home to give Gulf Coast a 6-0 lead (missed PAT).
The second quarter belonged to Charlotte. A short 3-yard TD punched in by Jackson Hay gave the Tarpons the one point lead. Late in the quarter, there was a fumbled Charlotte punt recovered by Trent Curliss who made a 75-yard house call to further the lead and head into the half 13-6 (missed 2-pt conversion).
In the second half, Hay adds an 18-yard touchdown and QB Teagan Lipke ran it in hi9mself for a 17-yard score.
The Tarpons overcome the Sharks with the 27-6 final.
