The Lee County Sheriff's Office arrested a man after a hit-and-run crash on the Cape Coral Bridge Sunday evening.
Deputies responded to the scene on College Parkway near South Pointe in Fort Myers around 8:10 p.m.
Upon arrival, deputies say they saw a car in the eastbound lanes of College Parkway at the base of the bridge. The car appeared to have crashed into the bridge wall, and the driver fled on foot.
Deputies say there was a beer bottle on the passenger floorboard, and the car was locked.
Deputies ran the license plate and identified the driver as Jose Ortiz, 32, who they say was located about a quarter mile away from the scene at the McDonalds.
According to reports, Ortiz was leaning on the wall of the bridge for support and had a strong odor of alcohol and glossy eyes.
After investigations, deputies concluded Ortiz was driving under the influence.
Field tests were conducted on Ortiz, which reports say he failed. He was arrested and taken to the Lee County Jail, where he is facing charges of DUI and leaving the scene of a crash.
