Governor Ron DeSantis is denying he approved the proposed improvements for nine state parks in the great outdoors initiative.
Some of those improvements included golf courses. pickleball courts and resort-style lodges.
DeSantis denied the proposal was approved by him, stating that the plans were "leaked to create a narrative."
This did not sit well with environmental groups as they made sure their opposing voices were heard.
DeSantis is saying it will be back to the drawing board for revaluation on those improvements.
"They are going back to the drawing board. Talk to your local communities. Here’s the thing. I’d rather not spend any money on this. If people don’t want improvements, then don't do it," Governor DeSantis said.
The governor says he would rather not spend the money on these park improvements, but first needs public input before moving forward.
DeSantis reassures that nothing has been approved and they will be reevaluating the park plans.
For now, state parks will stay the way they are - but environmental groups won't rest until the idea is completely shut down.
