The NBC2 First Alert Hurricane Tracking Team is monitoring a disorganized tropical wave over the central Atlantic, and it's possible this will become the next storm of the season by next week.
The disturbance is not currently showing any signs of organizing, and any development would likely be slow to occur.
The National Hurricane Center gives the feature a 40% to develop in the next week, which is up from 20% earlier today.
The tropical wave is moving west at 10 to 15 mph and will arrive near the Lesser Antilles by early next week.
From there, most computer model forecasts show the system moving into the eastern Caribbean by the middle of next week.
It's very typical for the tropics to heat up from late August into early September, which is considered part of the historical peak of hurricane season.
