The NBC2 First Alert Hurricane Tracking Team is now monitoring two tropical waves in the Atlantic basin, and it's possible one of them will become the next storm of the season by next week. The next name on the list is Francine.
The first tropical wave, is a bit closer to the Lesser Antilles and in the central part of the Atlantic Basin.
The National Hurricane center has increased the chances of development to 50% within the next 7 days and 20% over the next two days. The tropical wave is moving west at 10 to 15 mph and will arrive near the Lesser Antilles by early next week.
The next tropical wave is just emerging off the West Coast of Africa and has a bit of a longer time table to develop. The chance for development is 20% in the next 7 days with little to now chance within the next 48 hours.
It's very typical for the tropics to heat up from late August into early September, which is considered part of the historical peak of hurricane season.
