A nearly year-long investigation of a fatal hit-and-run in Fort Myers has led to a woman's arrest.
According to the Fort Myers Police Department , on Sept. 24, 2023, police recovered a damaged bicycle in the southbound span of the Caloosahatchee Bridge.
The next day, a body was recovered from the Caloosahatchee River and taken to the medical examiner's office.
FMPD said it was discovered during the examination that there was trauma to the body that was inconsistent with solely drowning.
An investigation began into the bicycle and the victim, who was identified as 20-year-old Hunter McDade.
Investigators got a suspected vehicle's year, make and model by examining debris on the bicycle.
With the help of tips submitted to FMPD after their social media posts, the vehicle of interest was located at an apartment complex along Metro Parkway.
The vehicle was then seized. Surveillance footage of the vehicle showed it without damage just days before and days after, with damage.
FMPD included multiple search warrants for devices and forensic evidence results in its investigation. In late August 2024, a warrant was approved for the arrest of Ninoshca Nieves, 28.
Nieves was arrested Thursday by the Lee County Sheriff's Office for one count of hit and run-involving death.
According to FMPD, Nieves is in the Lee County Jail.
