Part of the Caloosahatchee River is filled with kayaks this Labor Day.
First Round Draft is hosting its Second Annual Cape Coral Kayak Tournament, which consists of rowing about 7 miles down the river from First Round Draft on Del Prado Boulevard South to Monarca's Authentic Mexican Cuisine on SE 46th Street.
The options are a single or double kayak. Each option costs money, and all the money is going to the Marine Corps League this year.
Chris Sicotello, First Round Draft owner, has a connection to the organization.
"That's the unit that I’m attached with," Sicotello said. "As the owner of First Round Draft, I moved here to be with a Marine vet stationed within Iraq, so it’s a natural fit."
Last year, they partnered with the Cape Coral Animal Shelter.
Tommy Senator, Cape Coral Police volunteer supervisor, said two Cape Coral Police volunteer boats follow the kayakers for safety.
"Not so much kayakers, but boaters don’t pay attention to kayakers," Senator said. "They don’t understand that when they're inside the canals. It’s a slow zone. Just be careful, be considerate because it’s a lot easier for them to topple over when there's a big wake. Our presence will give them a little heads up to slow down, and to be cautious and considerate to the other boaters."
Sicotello said he plans to host the event for a third time next year.
