Flames billowed from the roof of a duplex residence along Tallwood Street on Marco Island Tuesday evening around 5:13 p.m.
According to the Marco Island Fire Rescue Department, reports came in that lightning struck the building, and smoke was showing.
Firefighters said they could see a column of smoke on their way to the scene. Crews then found flames shooting from the roof of the home.
They entered the home and found heavy smoke on the second floor. Fire officials said the ceiling was then pulled by roof hooks.
According to Marco Island Fire, firefighters encountered flames flaring up and rolling overhead in the attic space.
Crews had to pull the ceiling down in multiple rooms to reach all the hot spots and fire involvement areas.
Marco Island Fire Rescue also needed to make a roof cut to prevent the fire from spreading into the adjoining resident space on the other side of the firewall.
Marco Island Fire officials also said Greater Naples Fire Rescue and Collier County Emergency Medical Services were on the scene.
According to the report, no one was injured, and it took crews approximately 30 minutes to bring the fire under control and fully extinguish it.
Fire officials said a lightning strike is suspected to be the cause of the fire but the final determination will be available Wednesday.
