If you get caught going 10 mph over the speed limit in Cape Coral, you may need to be prepared to pay a $100 fine.
City leaders may be deciding on which company to go with to install 12 new speed detectors in Cape Coral school zones on Wednesday.
The push for extra safety comes after the city council was presented with a traffic study in June.
The study showed in one week alone, 100 people sped in 16 school zones in Cape Coral. Most speeders were going through Patriot Elementary. But the fastest speeders were documented going through Diplomat Elementary and Middle School.
Some drivers were going as fast as 68 mph in a 20 mph zone.
Cape Coral Police Chief Anthony Sizemore says the installation could be up and running before the next school year.
City leaders will be meeting at 4:30 p.m. to decide which company to go with during a public hearing.
