The NBC2 First Alert Hurricane Tracking Team is monitoring four areas of disturbed weather for potential tropical development this weekend.
Thankfully despite the number of areas being watched, none pose a direct threat to our local community for now.
Area to monitor #1: Southwest Gulf of Mexico
The region of the tropics with the highest chance of development is in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico.
As of Friday afternoon, the chances of development in this part of the Gulf have been increased to 40% over the next seven days.
Area to monitor #2: Northern Gulf of Mexico
An area of low pressure is producing disorganized storms in the northern Gulf of Mexico near the coasts of Texas and Louisiana. This disturbance is expected to merge with an approaching front by early this weekend so chances for development remain low.
Regardless of any development, rain is the main issue with this feature as several inches are forecast to fall across the northern Gulf coast through this weekend.
Areas to monitor #3 and #4: The Atlantic basin
The third area we are monitoring is a non-tropical area of low pressure a few hundred miles east of the U.S. Mid-Atlantic coast.
The chance of tropical development with this system is low, and even if it were to form into something, it would not impact Florida's weather.
The last area of interest is a broad area of low pressure in the eastern tropical Atlantic. Chances for development are at 0 percent over the next two days and 10 percent over the next seven days.
Though no systems in the tropics are threatening our area now, it's important to remember we're just entering what's normally the most active time of the season.
