A convicted felon is facing multiple charges after deputies say he vandalized a woman's vehicle and fired a gun into his Englewood East home on Sunday.
According to the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office, Matthew Franklin, 34, had an argument with a woman at his home on Xavier Avenue between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
The woman told CCSO that during the dispute, Franklin vandalized her vehicle and fired a gun into the home from outside, nearly hitting her. She said he also had drugs and was threatening to shoot law enforcement if they were called.
On Monday, CCSO's SWAT team searched Franklin's home, finding a gun, ammunition, gun parts and illegal narcotics. A bullet hole in the wall was also located at the residence, CCSO said.
During the search, Franklin's vehicle was discovered near White Avenue and Deepwoods Avenue in the Gulf Cove area of Charlotte County. Franklin was found in the same area and arrested.
Franklin faces the following charges.
- Possession of a firearm/ammunition by a convicted felon
- Shooting into an occupied dwelling
- Felony criminal mischief
- Resisting officer without violence
- Possession of drug paraphernalia
Franklin could face additional felony charges for the drugs seized. He remains in the Charlotte County Jail.
