A juvenile was arrested Saturday night after accidentally shooting themselves at North Fort Myers Recreation Center, prompting a large law enforcement response and the sheltering of football game attendees.
At around 10:30 p.m. Saturday, deputies working at the North Fort Myers Recreation Center were alerted by bystanders about an armed person in the area.
As a precaution, attendees at a nearby football game were directed to shelter in the concession building.
Within minutes, dozens of deputies, drones, aviation units, and K-9 teams arrived to secure the area. However, LCSO said no threats or signs of a disturbance were found.
About an hour later, a juvenile arrived at Cape Coral Hospital with a gunshot wound to the foot.
The juvenile told police they had accidentally shot themselves at the recreation center park. They were treated for non-life-threatening injuries and arrested for possession of a firearm by a minor.
