The Lee County Sheriff's Office arrested a man early Sunday morning on charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon after a shooting on Coon Road sent one person to the hospital.
Ryan Clayton, a neighbor, expressed his disbelief as LCSO cars and crime scene units lined the street all morning. "I've got kids here. It's a working-class neighborhood."
Detectives were seen entering and exiting the right side of a duplex, collecting evidence related to the incident.
Clayton said, "We don't want to ever see something like this happen again. For my kids' sake, for everybody in the neighborhood's sake."
Clayton emphasized the community's concern for safety, especially for the children in the area.
The landlord, speaking off-camera, mentioned that Smith had only lived in the duplex for about a year. The Lee County Sheriff's Office has not disclosed what led to the shooting or the current condition of the victim.
