A 47-year-old man crashed into a canal at Sunshine Boulevard North and 55th Street West in Lehigh Acres Monday around 10 p.m.
He died on scene.
The brother checked out the area for damage the day after. He said the driver, his brother, was named Noel "Marc" James.
It's been loss after loss for them. James' brother said Noel lost his wife recently. They also lost their older sister to cancer about a year ago.
James' brother also said it was their mom's car, who James lived with.
Jacqueline Virtue, who lives about two miles from where the crash happened, said there aren't many streetlights, so it's hard to see at night. She also said the canals in the area are very wide and deep.
"We back up to this very large canal, and it's probably a 25-foot drop from the canal road to the water," Virtue said. "It's pretty dangerous out there. I can see how he could drown very easily if his car flipped in the canal."
Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
