The Florida Highway Patrol arrested the spouse of a suspect in a deadly hit-and-run case on charges of tampering with evidence.
Yurid Gricel Macedo-Velasquez, 38, was booked into the Lee County Jail on Monday on an active felony warrant for tampering with evidence, according to FHP.
FHP says they are continuing to conduct investigations into the March fatal hit-and-run crash that happened on 40th Street SW and Rena Avenue S in Lehigh Acres.
According to the investigation, an unknown pickup truck “turned left in front of an approaching motorcycle on 40th Street SW” around 9:45 p.m.
The motorcycle operator was identified as 54-year-old motorcyclist John Vanwy, who was pronounced dead on the scene.
The passenger, Lillie Walters, 53, was seriously injured and taken to the hospital.
The suspect driver, Jose Manuel Aguiar-Meza of Lehigh County, was booked into Lee County Jail on Sept. 9 2024.
Aguiar-Meza was booked on an active felony warrant for Leaving the Scene with Death and Leaving the Scene with Injury.
