A failed electrical circuit sparked a major fire Wednesday at a home along US 41 in Estero, displacing a family.
Fire officials got the call at 3:49 p.m. at the Covered Wagon Travel Trailer Park, causing a large road blockage along southbound US-41.
Marcela Medina lives at the home. She told NBC2 she was at work when it happened. She rushed to her house when she got a phone call saying it was on fire.
"I was in shock because I thought of the kids. Then I remembered I had left them at school in the morning, and I said, no the kids are not in the home," Medina said. "I am devastated. I have nowhere to sleep, I don't have my kids. Where are they going to sleep?"
Thankfully, Medina said her husband and two children were not at the home when it happened.
Medina said all of this happened during her son's 8th birthday.
"I need help to find somewhere to live, clothes, whatever it is. We are left with what we are wearing," Medina said.
The Red Cross is assisting the family, according to fire officials.
Fire officials told NBC2 the home is unlivable. The fire spread to a nearby billboard but did not spread to any other homes and was extinguished.
Estero Fire Rescue said no one was inside the home when the fire started and no one was hurt.
