A North Port man is set to receive a prison sentence after being found guilty of a deadly shooting at a Naples restaurant in 2021.
Jason Nicholas Ortiz was convicted on one count of second-degree murder with a firearm after the jury returned the verdict following a four-day trial.
In March 2021 , the Collier County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of shots fired at Rusty's Raw Bar and Grill on Immokalee Road.
When they arrived, deputies say they learned someone had been shot.
Before the shooting, Ortiz and the victim, who were co-workers at the restaurant, had been in the parking lot.
The victim then walked back in the bar to speak with another co-worker who was also there.
Ortiz then went back into the bar, walked directly to the victim and pulled out the gun from behind him and shot him multiple times.
When the shots were fired, customers jumped in to help the victim and disarm Ortiz. They also made sure Ortiz did not leave the scene.
Ortiz was arrested and taken to the hospital with injuries.
The victim was taken to the hospital where deputies say he died from his injuries.
Ortiz is scheduled to be sentenced on November 1.
