A Cape Coral man convicted of child molestation has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.
According to the State Attorney's Office, Christopher Alexis Trinidad Cruz was sentenced to 15 years in prison for Lewd or Lascivious Molestation of a child between 12 and 16 years old, and 5 years in prison for Child Abuse.
Those are the maximum sentences for those charges and the sentences will run consecutively. He must also register as a sex offender.
The investigation began in June 2022, when the mother of the victim contacted the Cape Coral Police Department, after learning her child had been sexually abused by Cruz.
After an investigation, Cruz was arrested in August 2022.
He was convicted following a trial in Lee County, in July 2024.
