Despite suffering another scary concussion, Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa reportedly has no plans to retire.
According to NFL Network insiders, Tagovailoa has already seen concussion specialist and will continue to work with them until he is cleared to play.
This comes just days after Tagovailoa took a hit from Bills' safety Damar Hamlin during the third quarter of the Dolphins vs Bills matchup on Thursday Night Football.
Right now, there is no set timeline for Tagovailoa's return to action.
This is the latest head injury in the 26-year-old quarterback's career.
In 2022, Tagovailoa suffered two concussions. He missed five games, including a playoff game.
During week four of the 2022 season, Tagovailoa was taken off the field on a stretcher against the Cincinnati Bengals. On Christmas Day, the Dolphins hosted the Green Bay Packers where Tagovailoa was concussed again, resulting in missing the remainder of the season.
According to ESPN insiders, Tagovailoa admitted to briefly considering retiring in 2022.
After conversations with his family, but he clarified that it was primarily his mother who asked him to reconsider his playing career.
Tagovailoa signed a four-year, $212.1 million contract extension in July 2023.
It is unclear when Tagovailoa could return to action, but the lefty gunslinger must pass the NFL's five-step process to return to participation.
The first step of the protocol is rest and recovery "until his signs and symptoms and neurologic examination" return to "baseline status."
The next step is light aerobic exercise, followed by continued aerobic exercise and introduction of strength training.
A player can return to football activities in the fourth step of the protocol, all of which are noncontact.
The final step is full clearance, once the physician and neurological consultant agree the player is ready.
