Southwest Florida reacts to Trump's second...

LEE COUNTY, Fla. —

Reactions from local politicians have come pouring in since the assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump on Sunday. This is the second attempt on Trump's life since July.

"The Secret Service is just not doing enough," Antonio Rivera told NBC2.

Voters in Fort Myers are shocked that there was a second assassination attempt on Trump after he was shot at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

"I'm not surprised, but I didn't expect this to happen twice like that," Chloe Good said.

Republican state committeewoman JoAnn DeBartolo says she expects to see more attempts.

"We need to get there and expose who is behind this, which I feel I know who is behind this all, and hopefully we can get some answers," JoAnn DeBartolo said.

On Sunday, NBC2 also spoke to Jim Rosinus from the Democratic Party of Lee County. He's glad Trump wasn't harmed today but says there is another way to do this.

"No matter what your feelings are about him or about any other candidates, we have a process, we have a method. If you want to be rid of Donald Trump, there’s a date coming up to do that, and that’s Nov. 5," Jim Rosinus told NBC2.

"You know, public service has always come with a more public risk, but that's heightened now. The country is so volatile, and the vitriol is so pronounced and on the edge of what is even tolerable, before it spills out into all-out political violence, and you have seen that already on the extremes of both parties," Florida House Rep. Spencer Roach said.
