A man who was a fugitive out of Louisiana has pleaded guilty to illegally possessing a loaded firearm in Fort Myers.
According to the Department of Justice Middle District of Florida, Sammie Ray Sewell Jr., 43, was located at a Fort Myers hotel by Lee County deputies in February.
Deputies discovered Sewell had two warrants out of Louisiana. As he was being apprehended, deputies also found a chamber-loaded pistol with an extended magazine in his possession.
According to the news release, there were videos on Sewell's social media account showing him in possession of a pistol days before his arrest.
Sewell was previously convicted of multiple felonies. Officials said these charges included possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and aggravated robbery.
On Monday, Sewell pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon.
He is facing a maximum penalty of 15 years in federal prison and a sentencing date has not been set yet.
