As you drive through Cape Coral, you'll more than likely experience the hectic traffic that comes with it.
Imagine though, if the speed limit in this busy area were reduced by five to ten miles per hour.
This is currently a topic of discussion among city planners in Cape Coral, who are exploring options to enhance road safety.
Florida law dictates most speed limits. If local cities want to change that, they need an investigation to find ways to calm the area.
On major roadways, where the limit sits 30 to 45 mph, Cape planners find the risk for pedestrian or cyclist deaths increases greatly.
Between 2012 and 2022, Cape Coral had the highest percentage of total crashes compared to most major areas along the Gulf Coast.
The Traffic Advisory Board is looking at if they can get a full study done to find areas through Cape Coral that could benefit from reducing the traffic by five to 10 mph.
The Traffic Advisory Board is scheduled to meet on Wednesday for discussions.
There is no timetable for this project.
