The United State Postal Service is in the works on keeping the mail processing operations right here in Fort Myers.
This comes after a previous USPS decision to shift local mail processing operations to Tampa next year.
This means your mail would have to go all the way to Tampa just to be sent back down here to go across town.
It's a strategy USPS says will save the operations $3 billion nationwide. It is aimed at increasing efficiency and improving service quality.
Now it's currently under review by the Postal Regulatory Commission.

This plan will ensure mail being delivered from one address in Fort Myers to another would not leave the region for processing.
NBC2 previously reported when USPS committed $26.3 million to modernize the Fort Myers facility along Page Field to a local processing center.
Once that happens, it is expected to handle package mailing and shipping, letters and flats.
USPS says there will be no employee impact with the decision to keep these operations at the Fort Myers facility.
