The Collier County Sheriff's Office arrested a woman accused of leaving a puppy in a 110-degree truck for over an hour.
Ginobeba Obregon, 34, is facing an animal cruelty charge after deputies arrested her on Tuesday.
Detectives said the puppy, a six-month-old male schnauzer named Bigotes, was not injured and appeared to be in good health following the incident.
Deputies arrived at the Davis Village shopping plaza around 4:30 p.m. on Sunday to find Bigotes on the center armrest panting heavily. The 2021 Chevy Silverado was off and the windows were slightly cracked.
Deputies assisted firefighters in getting the puppy out of the truck, which was said to be 110 degrees.
Obregon told deputies she left the puppy inside the truck for 30 minutes while she shopped at a store in the plaza.
A witness told deputies she saw the dog inside the truck at 12:54 p.m. According to reports, the witness took a picture and went on to try and find the owner. When she returned to the truck, it was 1:56 p.m. and the puppy was still inside.
The CCSO investigation revealed that the puppy was left in the truck for at least one hour and 15 minutes.
“It is never OK to leave a pet inside a hot vehicle,” Sheriff Kevin Rambosk said. “Leaving pets inside a hot vehicle even for a few minutes can be deadly. We thank the concerned citizen who saw the puppy in distress inside the hot truck and reported it to law enforcement.”
According to reports, Obregon was found at her house on Tuesday and arrested. Obregon is facing charges of animal cruelty.
