Along Northeast 13th Avenue and Diplomat Parkway, there are no sidewalks for kids to walk to school on - and it is less than half a mile away from Diplomat Elementary.
Cape Cora city leaders are wanting to change that as they are prioritizing you and your child's safety.
So far the city has allocated $3.5 million for expanding sidewalks that will support areas like SW Santa Barbara Place, El Dorado Boulevard, Embers Parkway and more.
Now city leaders are wanting to do more by having sidewalks within a one to two mile radius from schools, especially elementary.
The city is looking over where they have sidewalks and what areas are lacking.
"Across the street is old neighbors. Sometimes they need a walk. They know how a sidewalk is. It's hard to them to put the garbage, trash on the grass. It's not the same if we have a sidewalk," Cape Coral resident Armando Dominguez said.
Cape Coral Mayor John Gunter says this project will take several years to complete but crews are looking to get started as quickly as possible.
City leaders are looking into additional funding for the project.
