A Fort Myers man is facing a 15-year maximum sentence after pleading guilty to possessing a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon.
Marquis Lamar Kitchen, 38, faces a 15-year prison sentence after pleading guilty on Thursday. A sentencing date has not yet been set.
According to court documents, on March 21, Fort Myers police saw a car moving side to side on the road before conducting a traffic stop.
Officers say they gave commands for Kitchen to roll down all of the car's windows. One of the officers saw two men swap seats in the car.
When officers asked the men to exit the car, they found Kitchen in the passenger seat. As the men got out, officers say they noticed a pistol on the driver's side floorboard.
DNA analysis connected Kitchen to the pistol, according to reports.
At the time, Kitchen had a prior felony conviction, which prohibited him from possessing a firearm or ammunition.
Kitchen will receive a sentencing date as he faces the possibility of a 15-year maximum penalty in prison.
