The Lee County Sheriff’s Office is working with the State Attorney's Office to investigate after a motorcyclist was killed on Interstate 75 in Estero early Sunday morning.
They aren't releasing any other details at the moment due to the crash being a large scene but can confirm a shooting did not happen. The victim's family is also still searching for answers.
Shortly after midnight on Sunday, Alexandra Roman got the call no one wants — her husband Jonathan Brown, Aka Jona, 35, was just killed in a motorcycle crash on I-75 in Estero.
She rushed to the crash site at mile marker 124 northbound.
Roman said, “His body was still lying on the floor, and it was just hard. It was hard to watch everything.”
Jona’s body came to rest in the middle of I-75. Northbound was shut down for over 15 hours as detectives investigated, including the Lee County Violent Crimes unit. Dozens of yellow evidence markers dotted the interstate.
“As bikers we know the risks, and we know things like this can happen, but you never think that it's going to happen to you or someone you love," Roman said.
Jona had a passion for motorcycles and cars but most of all loved his family. He leaves behind two children, a 20-year-old and a 9-year-old
“I had to tell her that Daddy wasn't coming back home. That's maybe the toughest thing. I never thought that I would have to say that to my daughter,"Roman said.
This Friday from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Roman said there will be a celebration of life for Jona at Mugs N Jugs Family Grill in Lehigh Acres. They will also be raising money for Jona's funeral.
“We are welcoming all the bikers, community and all the people from car meets, that's what he liked to do," Roman said.
