If you are driving down Michigan and Palm avenues in Fort Myers, you may have noticed signs lining the streets saying, "We love Dean Park but not the parking lot."
Residents in that area are sharing concerns about possible changes to the landscape.
"Well, first of all, the noise will be ridiculous. You're going to have employees coming in to get their trucks. The trucks are going to go pick up their supplies," said resident Lynn Stewart.
Stewart and some of her neighbors are fighting to stop a 100-space parking lot from going in on Michigan and Palm.
Two abandoned warehouses sit on the property right now.
Stewart and Michelle Nugent worry that there will be non-stop traffic if the city lets the parks department use the lot for trucks.
"It's a very bad plan and a very bad idea. And we are asking that the city, please go back to the drawing board and find a more appropriate place for the whole parks department," Nugent said.
"This neighborhood is a jewel in our city, this beautiful little neighborhood nestled downtown. And you're going to put an industrial parking lot across from it. You wouldn't do that in a regular neighborhood, let alone this neighborhood," Stewart said.
Dean Park is on the National Register of Historic Places and the residents are waiting on a reply from the city if they will continue with parking lot plans.
The mayor was out of office but says he will revisit it when he is back.
