A woman was arrested after The Lee County Sheriff's Office said she intentionally hit a Lee County Sheriff’s deputy with her vehicle during a disturbance at the Sheriff’s Office headquarters.
The incident happened Monday when Deputy Fowler was working at front desk at the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
A person entered to file a report about an individual in the parking lot. When Deputy Fowler went to investigate, he encountered Aran Baker, the suspect in the case.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Fowler tried to de-escalate the situation, but Baker began acting erratically.
As Deputy Fowler stepped away to call for backup, Baker accelerated her vehicle in reverse and struck Deputy Fowler at a high rate of speed. The deputy fell to the ground, and Baker sped off, leaving him injured.
Baker was later found inside a store off Daniels Parkway. Detectives said she resisted arrest but was taken into custody.
Baker faces charges of aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting an officer without violence.
Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno said. “This woman showed a complete lack of regard for Deputy Fowler, who was attempting to assist her,” Marceno said. “I will not tolerate this behavior toward my family members.”
Deputy Fowler is currently recovering from his injuries at home.
