With Helene set to impact Southwest Florida, firefighters are urging residents in flood-prone areas to take extra precautions to protect electric vehicles (EVs) and electric golf carts.
Water damage to high-voltage batteries can lead to significant issues, including an increased risk of battery fires.
South Trail Fire recommends moving EVs and electric golf carts to higher ground if possible.

For those unable to relocate their vehicles, the advice is to disconnect the EV from its charger and park it at least 50 feet away from buildings or other vehicles. Additionally, keeping the battery charge below 30% can help reduce potential hazards.
Oowners are also cautioned never to attempt driving or charging any lithium-ion device that has been submerged in floodwaters, as it can lead to dangerous malfunctions.
