As Hurricane Helene approaches, the City of Punta Gorda has issued an advisory affecting residents and businesses.
Government offices will be closed on Thursday due to the impending weather conditions, city officials announced Wednesday.

Commercial customers of the City of Punta Gorda are informed that there will be no trash collection on Thursday. Additionally, the Charlotte County Landfill will remain closed.
Residents are strongly urged to secure their trash and recycling carts to prevent damage or loss. City officials say they will not provide replacements for lost or damaged carts due to limited stock and high replacement costs.
There is currently no change for residential or commercial trash, recycling or yard waste collections on Friday.
The storm will bring impacts to southwest Florida starting Wednesday
The forecast cone indicates the system becoming as strong as a Category 3 hurricane when off the Southwest Florida coast on Thursday. After that, the storm is likely to remain a major hurricane as its center moves toward the northeast Gulf of Mexico. It is still expected to become a major hurricane at landfall, sometime Thursday afternoon or evening.
