Students, teachers and staff from schools all across Southwest Florida are being impacted by closures due to Hurricane Helene. Below are schools that will be closed at some point this week.
Charlotte County Public Schools
School officials in Charlotte County announced Tuesday that school will be closed due to the expected arrival of Helene late this week.
Schools will be closed on Thursday and Friday to "ensure the safety of students and staff," the district said.
In addition to the closures on Thursday and Friday, Charlotte County officials said Kingsway Elementary will close at noon on Wednesday so the school can serve as a shelter for residents.
All after-school activities scheduled for Wednesday in Charlotte County are canceled, with the exception of on-campus daycare programs, which will remain operational.
The district has not announced any plans for Friday night high school activities.
Collier County Public Schools
Closures start at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
All activities scheduled at CCPS schools will be canceled starting on Wednesday evening. School will be closed on Thursday.

- Extracurricular activities including athletic and performing arts practices and competitions
- Adult and Community Education classes

CCPS says they anticipate returning to regular operations on Friday.
Lee County School District
The school district will end all after-school activities by 4 p.m. on Wednesday. However, all after-school activity buses for Wednesday will be canceled.
This excludes aftercare, which will remain open until 6 p.m.
They will provide a future update regarding any potential closure for Thursday.
Oasis Charter schools will also be closed on Thursday.
DeSoto County
The School District will close on Thursday to prepare for the potential impacts of Helene.
All sports and extracurricular activities on Thursday will be rescheduled or canceled.
Classes are tentatively resume on Friday.

Glades County
Schools are closed on Thursday with classes expected to resume on Friday.
The district said, "We made this decision in consultation with Glades County Emergency Management to ensure the well-being of our students and staff. We understand that school closures can be disruptive, but we appreciate your understanding as we prioritize safety."
Hendry County
Hendry County School District is canceling school for Thursday. All schools will be closed. Adult education programs, athletics, and after-school activities will also be canceled.
School, athletics, and classes will resume on Friday.
Florida Gulf Coast University
All activities, including events and classes, beginning at 9 p.m. on Wednesday are canceled, and the campus will remain closed through Thursday.
A decision about Friday's operations will be announced on Thursday at 3 p.m.
Florida SouthWestern State College
All classes and operations will transition to remote learning and work on Thursday and Friday.
